Recipe for fighting obesity

fighting obesityChanges in diet and daily physical activity have meant that our society suffers from excess weight, which affects the physical and mental health of many people. To address this “pathology” specialists insist the key to prevention lies in proper education from early childhood.

1. Is the world obese?
Obese. Spain is among the five countries with the highest rate of obesity and overweight in Europe. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity and overweight characters has reached global epidemic. More than one billion adults are overweight and of these, at least 300 million are obese.

In Spain, data 2007 of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (SEED), say 15.5 percent of adults are obese and 38 percent are overweight. Therefore, adding overweight and obesity, we can say that 54 percent of the Spanish population is overweight.

Today our country is among the five highest rates of obesity and overweight in adults in Europe, but if we sum in the child population data are alarming, especially as some bands between 11 and 17 years, where we led the list.

Obesity is a problem that every day is more common although there is greater awareness about its impact on health. Besides being an important factor in risk for heart diseases, may also increase the likelihood of developing a variety of ailments, including diabetes, arthritis and certain cancers.

The fact of being overweight or obese can cause profound psychological effects and terrible misery. Diets snapshots, however, have their own problems and in few occasions lead to lasting weight loss. Overweight and obesity are conditions in which there is excess body fat.
The difference is just a degree, being the most severe obesity condition. In recent years there has been a trend away from traditional tables of weight and height to weight assessment form called body mass index (BMI).

You can calculate your BMI by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.

Underweight: having underweight is a less common and may be related to a chronic disease or nutritional disorder such as anorexia nervosa. Those who are underweight may be at higher risk for disease.

Healthy
: If you walk into this categoriaa ideal weight and you would have to propose to maintain this level in coming years.

Overweight: The people who come into this category can have health problems. They present a moderate risk of heart disease and would have to take steps to lose weight long term.

Obese: Obesity is closely associated with poor health status and are at major risk for a wide range of disorders. Persons falling in this category should take immediate steps to lose weight.

Very obese: At this weight, health is at serious risk and must take immediate steps to lose weight under medical supervision.
