The excellence of the Mediterranean diet

The inhabitants of the Mediterranean basin countries have a quality of life and expectations regarding health and longevity, better than in many other countries. The reason must be sought in the so-called Mediterranean diet.
1. What is the Mediterranean diet?
Healthy. Numerous studies have affirmed the healthful properties of this diet.
The Mediterranean diet is a lifestyle based on a balanced and varied diet of predominantly food derived from traditional crops of the area washed by the Mediterranean goegráfica: wheat, olives and vines.
Foods that are the basis of this diet are:
- The bread and pasta as the main source of carbohydrates.
- Olive oil as the main source of fat.
- Wine in moderate amounts with meals.
- Vegetables, fruits, nuts and legumes in the diet provide plenty of fiber and antioxidants.
- Fish, poultry, dairy products and eggs as the main source of protein and lower consumption of meat and animal fats.
These foods and culinary treatment leads to a lifestyle that complements habits (unfortunately increasingly rare) that invites the climate, like trips to the sun, talk or nap.
